Natrona County WW1 Draft Registration Cards

Names that do not appear in Register or in Since Second Edition are shown in blue.

The men listed here were found by searching in Ancestry.com for those born in Ireland and registering in a particular Wyoming county. Many more can be found by searching all records in the county, or by searching for individual surnames in the county because only one of the three variations of the form asked directly for place of birth.

There is a problem with the Ancestry search method: A more detailed search (for example, by name, county, and state) produces additional results outside the state.

The records have been digitized, with the errors we've come to expect, but Ancestry lets us see a photocopy of the original in addition to the digitized version.

The following quotes from Ancestry.com and from Wikipedia discuss the draft and United States participation in World War 1.

...from Ancestry.com
The United States was never formally a member of the Allies but became a self-styled "Associated Power". The United States had a small army, but it drafted four million men and by summer 1918 was sending 10,000 fresh soldiers to France every day. Germany had miscalculated, believing it would be many more months before they would arrive and that the arrival could be stopped by U-boats.

...from Allies of World War 1, Wikipedia.org
The United States declared war on Germany on the grounds that Germany violated American neutrality by attacking international shipping. The U.S. entered the war as an "associated power", rather than a formal ally of France and Britain, because it had not declared war on the Ottoman Empire like those two countries. Although Turkey severed relations with the United States, it did not declare war. The U.S. was not at war with some of the other Central Powers, such as the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
